"He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers."
Psalm 1:3
|
Most tree root systems are deeper and wider than the visible tree above the ground. The limb and leaf systems can be large and grand in presentation and in the fruit produced. What is not seen is the years of nutrients, moisture and resistance building resulting in the strength of a tree to withstand the forces of nature. |
Organizations are similar, especially ones that have a long, rich faith heritage reinforced by years of leaders and donors contributing to their mission of serving people of all ages. The EAGLE Principles provide a way for Christian organizations to improve processes to grow stronger and prosper. |

Senior Living Organization Receives Reaccreditation with Commendation
Congratulations to Wesley Willows for their Reaccreditation with Commendation.
At its July Meeting, the EAGLE Accreditation Commission approved Wesley Willows' distinguished Accreditation with Commendation. Led by President and CEO William Pratt, the agency has long been committed to EAGLE accreditation. In addition to completing a rigorous self-study and joint EAGLE Reaccreditation with CARF, the agency celebrates many years of excellence in the Northern Illinois Conference. The review team, Susan Sharp, United Methodist Communities and Sharon Anderson, Asbury Springhill Senior Living, were impressed by the resident-led programs such as the Good Samaritan Fund, Community Garden (shown above) and the recycling program.
Welcome New Commissioner
The EAGLE Accreditation Commission welcomes Lori Furr, Director of Risk Management/Safety/Security, at Aldersgate UMRC, Inc. in Charlotte, North Carolina, as our newest Commissioner. Approved by the UMA Board of Directors this summer, Lori began serving her first three-year term at the July Commission meeting. Lori and the leadership from Aldersgate graciously hosted the two-day September EAGLE Commission meeting in Charlotte. Lori additionally completed the Peer Reviewer Training at the Annual Meeting in Fort Myers and will participate in her first review in November. We look forward to the leadership and expertise Lori Furr brings to the Commission.
EAGLE Recognition Reaffirmed for QRTP
EAGLE recently received additional federal communications regarding EAGLE recognition as an approved accrediting body for Qualified Residential Treatment Programs (QRTP).
In an August 20th letter, Jerry Milner, Associate Commissioner of the Children's Bureau of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, reaffirmed the approval of EAGLE accreditation standards. He stated that, "all Children's Bureau Regional Offices have been made aware of the approval of EAGLE accreditation standards and requested that they share this information with their states."
While the letter in response to UMA confirms EAGLE recognition, some ambiguity continues as the HHS website does not mention EAGLE.
The EAGLE task force working on this issue met and has turned its attention to pursue discussions with individual states. We'd like to hear your experience with your state to share with the task force. Please contact Director of EAGLE Jill Myers at jmyers@ouruma.org or UMA President Mary Kemper at mkemper@ouruma.org.
Annual Reports Due December 15

EAGLE Marketing Task Force
EAGLE's goal is to recognize organizations that voluntarily go beyond the minimum requirements of licensure to improve operational processes and outcomes. EAGLE challenges organizations not just to compete in challenging human services environments, but to soar above the competition while living their faith values. In early September, the EAGLE marketing task Force met to create an EAGLE Marketing Toolkit designed to encourage and help EAGLE Accredited organizations share the news of their EAGLE Accreditation. Please stay tuned to our newsletters, website and our new EAGLE Facebook page for updates.
