"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference."
Steve Fetyko Chair UMA Board of Directors |
|
For me, the serenity prayer above is a reminder that during this pandemic, while it may feel like what is happening is outside my control, I can focus on what I can take action on and what I can make a difference on. It is now almost 5 months since all our lives, and the lives of those we serve, have been turned upside down. As we weather all the challenges that the coronavirus has brought us, UMA members share a common foundation from which to build toward our next normal. Together, we have leaned heavily on our faith and our faith-based values. In the face of complex, costly and changing regulations and requirements related to COVID-19, we gain clarity and motivation from our faith-based values. We are grounded in our conviction and commitment to provide the safest and most caring environment possible for those we serve... read more. |

EAGLE Accreditation Reviews Go Virtual for 2020
Out of an abundance of caution and in response to changing conditions in states and facilities, all EAGLE accreditation site visits will be virtual through the end of the year. The EAGLE and UMA team will work to support organizations with this new approach and use of the Zoom platform. Despite the dramatic changes that organizations have had to make during the past three months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most organizations have opted to continue with their accreditation schedule as planned. The 2020 calendar remains full of EAGLE accreditation self-studies and site visits.

National Immunization Awareness Month
August is National Immunization Awareness month, an opportunity to highlight the importance of getting recommended vaccines to protect against serious illnesses like the flu, measles, and pneumonia. It is a great time to remind family, friends, and coworkers to stay current on their vaccinations. Below is information from the CDC and the Medicare Learning Network to share with others in your community.
The CDC has a variety of resources to assist in communicating to healthcare professionals, parents, and patients about immunization during August and throughout the year. They have produced toolkits for reaching parents and patients, a toolkit for reaching healthcare professionals, a # HowIRecommend video series for providers, an interactive vaccine guide and an adult vaccine assessment tool. The CDC also provides sample graphics and newsletter text that can be used.
